Is Your Office Outdated? 5 Signs It’s Time to Move

Does your office fully support your company’s mission or is it throwing unnecessary hurdles into your path? Growing pains are a good sign that it’s time to move on. If these red flags sound familiar, it may be time to find a new office space.

1) Your current office space is bursting at the seams
Your organization may have simply outgrown its office. No one likes feeling like a sardine at work, so if your staffing levels are rising and expanding your current space isn’t an option, it may be time to find a new one with room to grow.

2) Workflow is changing, but your office space can’t.
As your company evolves, employees may take on new tasks that come with changes in space requirements. No workplace should stunt productivity, so don’t let an inflexible office make it impossible to structure spaces for departments or create an intuitive layout.

3) You have limited remodeling options
The square footage may be adequate, but the building shape or the way a floor is structured just aren’t working. Fixing dated interior design is one thing, but knocking down the walls and gutting the space to start completely anew isn’t always an option, especially if that would require relocating many employees during a renovation. A new space gives you the opportunity to remodel it to your specifications before your employees move in.

4) You need a contemporary space with more efficient infrastructure
The HVAC, lighting, and other essential building systems in your old space can be upgraded, but at some point, the cost of replacing major building systems may outweigh the gradual energy savings from upgraded equipment. Moving to a newer building with more efficient systems will lower your utility bills from the start and may also allow for smaller, lower-cost upgrades that can deliver even more savings, like wireless lighting controls.

5) Moving to a different neighborhood would benefit your business
Don’t forget the old adage about the three most important considerations in real estate being “location, location, and location.” If your business just isn’t performing as well as it should because it’s in the wrong place, it’s time to find the right one.

If any of the above ring true, it’s time to investigate a new space. Start by assessing the shortcomings of your current surroundings. If floor space and organization has been a problem, look for an office that’s a little bigger than you currently need so you can grow into it without having to move again. A more customizable space with demountable walls and partitions can help with flexibility and layout issues, as you can move walls relatively easily whenever the office needs an update.

Your company deserves a space that furthers its work instead of holding it back. Find the office space that fits your organization and solve the outdated office conundrum once and for all.
